Dance Essentials
Many of my students ask what shoes or training gear they should invest in for their dance lessons. While every dancer’s goals are a little different, these are the products I recommend most often because they’re comfortable, reliable, and a great foundation for training.
If you’re not sure where to begin or you’re looking for something specific for your dance style, performance, or wardrobe, feel free to reach out. I’m always happy to point my students in the right direction.
Ballet Slippers
Best For: Beginners, Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Lyrical & Everyday Training
Ballet slippers are one of the first shoes I recommend to new dancers. They’re lightweight, comfortable, and allow your feet to move naturally while helping build strength, balance, and proper technique. Whether you’re taking your first class or adding extra practice outside the studio, they’re a staple every dancer can benefit from.
Character Dance Shoes
Best For: Musical Theatre, Ballroom Foundations, Social Dance & Heel Training
Character shoes are a wonderful introduction to dancing in heels. They offer more stability than a traditional heel while helping dancers develop confidence, posture, and clean technique. They’re one of my favorite recommendations for anyone transitioning into ballroom or performance work.
Dance Heels
Best For: Latin Ballroom, Salsa, Bachata, Argentine Tango, Ballroom & Formal Partner Dancing
If you’re learning partner dancing, investing in a proper pair of dance heels makes a noticeable difference. Unlike fashion heels, dance heels are designed specifically for turning, weight transfer, balance, and movement. Whether you’re training in salsa, bachata, ballroom, tango, or preparing for a special event, they provide the support and flexibility needed to dance with greater confidence and comfort.
Character Boots
Best For: Ballroom Training, Long Rehearsals, Teaching & Extra Ankle Support
Character boots are one of my favorite recommendations for dancers who spend long hours in the studio. They provide additional ankle support and stability while still allowing you to move comfortably through lessons and rehearsals. They’re especially great for ballroom dancers, instructors, and performers who want extra support without sacrificing mobility.
A Final Thought
Your wedding dance doesn’t have to be perfect, it simply needs to feel like the two of you. The products I recommend aren’t meant to make rehearsals more complicated. They’re tools that can help you practice comfortably, build confidence, and enjoy the journey together.
Remember, your guests won’t be looking for perfection, they’ll be watching two people celebrating one of the happiest moments of their lives. Every lesson, every practice session, and every little milestone brings you one step closer to that unforgettable first dance.
I can’t wait to help you create a dance that feels natural, joyful, and uniquely yours.
