Wedding Group Dances - Bridesmaid Dances, Groomsmen Dances & Family Dances are hot at NY Weddings.
There’s nothing like the energy of a wedding day — the anticipation, the love, the celebration. As a choreographer and dance instructor, I’ve seen firsthand how group wedding dances can transform a moment into something unforgettable.
I’ve worked with bridal parties of all kinds — big, small, super coordinated, and some who swore they “can’t dance.” And let me tell you… when the music drops and your crew hits the floor, it becomes pure magic. The kind that makes your guests light up, your cousin who never dances start showing out, and your friends talk about it long after the last song fades.
If you’ve never been part of one, here’s what I’ve learned — and what you might not know (but definitely want to).

1. IT GLUES THE GROUP TOGETHER
One of the best things to witness as an instructor is how a wedding party comes into the first rehearsal unsure, quiet, maybe a little awkward, but once we get moving, things shift. There’s laughter, support, and this shared feeling of “we’re figuring it out together.”
The process of learning as a group - celebrating the wins, messing up, trying again - brings people closer in a way nothing else really does.
By the time the wedding day arrives, they’re more than just your wedding party, friends or family, they're your training & performance partners as well.

2. THE SHY ONES COME ALIVE
One of the most beautiful things to witness in the studio is the quiet ones slowly unfolding.
At first, they’re unsure, reserved, maybe convinced they “can’t dance.” But over time, with group support and the rhythm of rehearsals, there is an amazing shift. Those same individuals start to trust their bodies, enjoy the movement, and surprise even themselves.
It’s enchanting to watch their confidence grow. And more often than not, their growth is felt by the rest of the group, creating an inspiration-filled experience of evolution into performers and dancers.

3. YOU GET TO BE EXTRA (IN THE BEST WAY)
This is your moment as a bride or groom to be bold, have fun, and let your personality shine. And your whole crew gets to do it with you.
Looking for that choreographed moment that builds energy in the room?
We’ve got you.
Want to drop into a surprise salsa, hip hop combo, or Beyoncé-level formation?
Yup.
One of my brides used the group dance as full permission to be sassy and sexy - hair flips, and all. | Then there was a group of groomsmen who channeled their inner Magic Mike and did a full-out moment to “Pony” by Ginuwine (the crowd went wild). | And I’ll never forget the bridal party that chose a fun, playful 80s Madonna vibe, complete with all the attitude. |
It’s your moment so be as EXTRA as you see fit!

4. IT SETS THE PARTY OFF
Nothing kicks off a reception like a group dance that wows. That feeling when the music drops, your crew hits the floor, and suddenly it’s go mode, time to perform and tell your story.
Your guests light up, phones come out, and before you know it, everyone wants to be part of the energy. This performance sets the tone: this night is going to be fun, alive, and full of love. It inspires loved ones to join you on the dance floor, and celebrate with the gift that is dance & self-expression. One of the best parts of seeing my clients perform is witnessing how it opens the reception & ignites it.

5. THE REAL MEMORIES START BEFORE THE BIG DAY
Yes, the wedding day is magical but the real magic happens in the studio, learning new movements, understanding how the body works, individually and together.
Witnessing the inside jokes, the random freestyle breaks that turn into a combination of humorous release.
It’s where your crew goes from individuals to a united force, learning together, laughing together, and becoming one in the story you're telling through your dance.
You’re sharing a journey while preparing for a performance. A journey that connects everyone in a way that shows up on the dance floor and stays with you long after. It’s in that process where the bond between you and your crew deepens, and hopefully what everyone will remember the most.
So whether you're the bride, the groom, a bridesmaid, a groomsman, or that one cousin who's still on the fence, this is your sign to say yes to the group dance.
